Facebook... the copycat?

With Microsoft paying billions to be part of the Facebook action, you'd be forgiven for forgetting that this humble site is in fact clunked together with little more than a bit of amateur code by a geek in his early 20's. But Mark Zuckerberg has quickly become the poster boy of the next dot com rush.

The problem is that not everything is as it seems with Zuckerberg. No sooner had he started to earn headline space than a host of people started to emerge claiming he had stolen their idea. Not to be expected. The problem is that many of them could prove this.

For example there were his college buddies that had allegedly PAID him to code a site which is extraordinarily similar. Zuckerbergs excuses have changed over time, and have revealed massive plot holes in his defence, including the fact that he claims he didn't start work on the Facebook idea until the 26 Jan 2003, even though he registered the domain around the 9th.

Various articles have emerged around the net painting Zuckerberg as an underhand coder, who would do anything and cross anyone to get what he wanted. So next time you update your facebook profile, ask yourself if you really want him knowing anything about you.
